•Dietary saturated fatty acid or fructose altered cholesterol and lipoproteins by proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) and cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36).•Dietary high saturated fatty acid or fructose decreased non-atherogenic lipoproteins.•PCSK9 and CD36 are interconnected and regulated by dietary pattern.•Nutrient-sensitive biomarkers PCSK9 and CD36 affected cholesterol synthesis and lipoproteins.
