AN INVESTIGATION OF THE pp » AA AND p/> » EA+ cc REACTIONS NEAR THRESHOLD

Experiment PS185 studies the production of anuhypcron-hypcron pairs in antiproton-proton collisions at LEAR in the near-threshold energy region. The pp-» AA reaction has been thoroughly studied by PS18S and many high-quality data have been reported. New results, including_lotal and differential cross sections along with spin observables, are presented here for the channels pp—> AA and pp—> IA+ cc at incident lab anliproton momenta of 1.726 and 1.771 GeV/c. The data from the relatively unstudied and complementary pp—» EA+ cc channel is compared to that from pp—> AA at similar energies above the reaction threshold.
