Fast Hα emission line variability in RS Ophiuchi

We present optical spectroscopy of the recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi with time resolutions of ∼6, ∼5 and ∼2 min. In contrast to previous high time resolution studies of the system, changes in the emission from Hα are detected on time-scales as short as 2 min. Future high time resolution spectroscopy at a higher spectral resolution will be invaluable in determining the nature of the variation.
