Alpheid Shrimp Arete Dorsalis and Its Association with the Slate Pencil Sea Urchin Heterocentrotus Mamillatus in Lakshadweep Waters
Proceedings of the Zoological Society(2019)
Abstract
Alpheid shrimp Arete dorsalis was sighted for the first time from Lakshadweep archipelago, in association with the slate pencil sea urchin Heterocentrotus mamillatus. The shrimp was observed to use the sea urchin’s spines as its shelter. Colouration of the shrimp blended with that of the sea urchin’s spine rendering the shrimp a protection from its predators.
