Boundary conditions of post-retrieval extinction: A direct comparison of low and high partial reinforcement

•Both reinforcement groups retained extinction after post-retrieval extinction.•Both reinforcement groups recovered after standard extinction.•Greater recovery in high than low reinforcement group in standard extinction.•Post-acquisition threat ratings were higher in the 40% group than the 80% group.•Physiological arousal during memory reactivation predicted spontaneous recovery.
