•Childhood adversities are linked with PD symptoms in the next generation.•G1 maltreatment is linked with G2 Borderline, Histrionic, Narcissistic, Dependent PDs.•G1 malnutrition is linked with G2 Schizoid PD.•More personality pathology is present when limited to the offspring of G1 mothers.•Future studies should further explore these findings and possible mechanisms.
