All Optical 2 R Regeneration and Optimization

In this paper, 2R Regeneration of 40 Gb/s RZ data has been implemented using Self Phase Modulation (SPM) with the help of OptiSystem 12.0 and optimization of different fiber parameters have been studied. The optical signals are not immune to distortion in long distance communication system. All optical signal regeneration restores the distorted quality of transmitted signals over long distances due to ASE noise, fiber nonlinearities, group velocity dispersion and polarization mode dispersion. The role of dispersion along with nonlinearity for optimizing the performance of an all optical 2R regenerator has been investigated. The variation of Q factor with different fiber parameters such as length, dispersion and nonlinear refractive index has also been studied.
