Abstract
The aim of the study was to investigate analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activities of aqueous extract of aerial parts of Erythrina indica (AEEI). AEEI was evaluated for both peripheral and central analgesic activities by acetic acid induced writhing, tail immersion and hot-plate methods. The AEEI exhibited significant analgesic activities on experimental animals and the results were comparable to those observed with standard drugs. The analgesic action of AEEI can be attributed to its active constituents such as alkaloids, flavonoid and tannins which are known to act through inhibition of prostaglandins biosynthesis.
