Enabling Resilience through Introspection and Virtualization

This paper argues that virtualization coupled with an introspective run-time can be used to enhance the fault tolerance of exascale systems while reducing their dependency on checkpointing. By pairing an introspective run-time with virtualization, we propose that many failures can be predicted and other failures detected and mitigated while maintaining concurrency and without resorting to full checkpointing.
