Abstract
Tohoku University propose an advanced version of daily-step, blended (microwave + infrared) merged sea surdface temperature (SST) data set by optimal interpolation (OI) based on the satellite remote sensing. The diurnal SST variations, which are up to 2◦C in warming-up seasons, are eliminated by empirical equations. Decorrelaton scales for OI are estimated based on the diurnal corrected, daily-minimum SST.
