Abstract
M. Gosper and D. Ifenthaler (eds.), Curriculum Models for the 21st Century: Using Learning Technologies in Higher Education, DOI 10.1007/978-1-4614-7366-4_2, © Springer Science+Business Media New York 2014 Abstract ‘Breaking away from text, time and place’ explores many of the pedagogical options available to higher education instructors that ensure multimodal resources and construction are included in new forms of pedagogy. Through a range of current and emerging technologies that promote co-constructivist, studentcentred learning situated in real-world contexts, we can break away from linear and time-constrained delivery strategies to operate with simultaneous delivery of multiple topics and learning activities. No longer are academics constrained to deliver a course following traditional 1-week, one-topic models; they are now presented with options to create new ways of delivering resources, facilitating interactions and providing feedback, all without the need to assume that a physical space for such interactions is a necessary component of learning tasks and activities. Similarly, students are now able to explore new ways of accessing and connecting content to multimodal forms of representation.
