Emergence of ndm-1-producing escherichia coli in the shandong province of china

Escherichia coli (E. Coli), member of the Enterobactericeae family, is one of the most frequently isolated agents in communityand hospi tal-acquired infections. In recent years, antibiotic resistance has become a growing problem in the treatment of these infections. With the emergence of carbapenem-resistant E.coli in recent years, clinical management of such infections is becoming more of a problem. Research is needed to effectively prevent and control the formation and spread of drug-resistant pathogens and to learn proactively about drug resistance mechanisms and molecular epidemiological features of PAN-drug resistant E.coli. We isolated five novel strains of E.coli that are resistant to most antibiotics, especially carbapenem but not tigecycline, from our hospital from June to December of 2014. Due to typical regional differences in bacterial resistance mechanisms, we studied the molecular epidemiology of the five strains of E.coli to clarify drug resistance mechanisms and molecular epidemiological features, and to provide a basis for further measures to prevent and control hospital infections.
