High Accuracy User ’ s Distance Estimation by Low Cost Cameras

In this paper, we propose an algorithm using only two commodity webcams without any calibration to detect the distance between users and the display. According to the experimental results, the error is always less than 2cm and the operation range is up to 406cm. Our proposed algorithm can provide users' depth information with high accuracy from calibration free stereo capture image pair for the application, such as interactive 3DTV or user-aware auto-stereoscopic display.
