Grooving Characteristic CHARACTERISTICS OF MICRO GROOVE MACHINING FOR THE MOLD OF PDP BARRIER RIBS

Market of Plasma Display Panel (PDP) is expected to be 10 billion dollars in the year of 2001 starting High Definition Television (HDTV) [1]. PDP is well known to be the best candidate for over 40 inch flat display panel which have strong points such as 160 ° view angle, 500 cd/ luminance etc. Though PDP costs 20-30 t housands yen per inch, Reduction of manufacturing cost and time should be steadily achieved for PDPs to survive as wide flat display panel. PDP is flat panel display utilizing light emission t ha i produced by gas discharge. As Fig. 1 shows, each pixel i separated by barrier ribs which shape is stripes of glass wall. In case of 40" VGA AC PDP, Width and depth of Barrier ribs are about 80 μm and 150 μm respectively.
