Assessment of Sexual Behaviors and Associated Factors among Sheba University College Students in Mekelle Town , Tigray , Ethiopia

Back ground: University students, have more risk behaviors where they can meet with their similar age that has high risk behaviors. Risk behaviors like unprotected sex, multi partnership, no or inconsistence use of condoms and drug of abuse are extremely determinate to health of adolescents and young adults putting them at high risk to human immune deficiency virus and other Sexual transmitted diseases. There for discussing on their sexual behaviors then investing on their solutions will help to bring of these adolescent behavioral changes and keep them healthy and wealthy future. The aim of this study is to assess sexual behaviors and associated factors among Sheba University college students in Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia, 2014 Methods: A cross sectional study design was conducted at Sheba University College. Data entry and analysis was using Statistical Package for Social Science version16 statistical software package. A total of 361 sample size was participated using self-administer questionnaire .The study population will be both male and female regular students of any age whom are attending their classes at Sheba university college in 2014. Five percent of the questionnaire will be pretested at Millennium University College; necessary corrections will be made accordingly. Result: Out of the total study participants 363(84%) were in the age group of 18-21 whereas the remaining 51(12.1%) and 16(3.8%) were in the age group of 22-25 and >25 years age respectively. Regarding their sex 75% were female students. Majority 358(85.2%) of the study participants were orthodox and the least 2(5) were protestant. Most 185(44%) of the students were lived in Mekelle town until their age 15 years. students who have 500-1500 ETB were 9%(AOR 1.094; 95% CI, 0.018-0.487) times more likely to practice sex compared to those who have money less than 500 ETB. Students who have >1500 ETB were 2.85(AOR 2.85; 95% CI, 0.000-0.001) times more likely to practice sex compared to those who have money less than 500 ETB. Conclusion and Recommendation: The factors associated with this were the money they get, income out of family help and having lover currently. Families of the students should take care of the financial help to their daughters/sons and do family financial audit in the future.
