Abstract
Crustin is an antimicrobial peptide that is found in shrimp immune system. This peptide (crustin) is involved in the shrimp defensive system against the bacterial infection. In this work, the type-II crustin (LvcrustinA) from the whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) was studied. The LvcrustinA gene contained an open reading frames of 519 bp encoding 172 amino acid residues. The previous work, it was shown that the LvcrustinA expression was up-regulated after injecting the pathogenic microorganisms into the shrimp. The LvcrustinA was probably involved in the shrimp immune system. From the result, it presented the antimicrobial activities against two gram-positive bacteria; Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. LvcrustinA was probably involved the shrimp immune system.
