T information systems engineering

his article describes the science and technology vision of information systems engineering at ApL. information systems transform signal and data representations to highlevel abstractions that enable people to perceive and interact with their environments. As information systems become more complex, they are expected to be more flexible, reusable, distributed, and extensible. To achieve these goals, information systems must be constructed upon solid software and system architecture foundations, and also must be created using sound software, cognitive, and information assurance methodologies. since the dimensions of well-engineered information systems are too numerous to describe here, we cannot adequately cover all of their aspects. Therefore, we discuss key paradigms that will guide the future development of information systems at ApL.
