摘要

•Less than half of the routine EEG records were abnormal.•About 10% of all routine EEG records in epileptics showed epileptiform discharges.•Different antiseizure medicines may have varying effects on routine EEG.•Activation procedures are of greater value in some conditions more than others.•Better selection of patients for routine EEG, through clinical history and comorbidities, is warranted to increase its yield.
