Single-channel speech enhancement with correlated spectral components: Limits-potential.

•We demonstrate the limits- potential of single-channel speech enhancement algorithms regarding the inter-frequency frequency dependencies.•We derive linear multidimensional short-time spectral amplitude estimator and provide empirical evidence for assumptions forming this model.•We provide empirical evidence for assumptions forming basis of the proposed linear multidimensional short-time spectral amplitude estimator.•The performance of proposed approach is evaluated in terms of speech quality and intelligibility and is compared to relevant benchmark methods.•Results showed that the proposed method achieved improvement in speech quality and intelligibility for various noisy scenarios.
