Preliminary results of the international nipple sparing mastectomy registry–a EURECCA project

Background: The advantage of nipple sparing mastectomy (NSM) over traditional skin sparing mastectomy (SSM) is the radical removal of all breast tissue while preserving native breast integrity and the nipple-areola complex (NAC), which improves cosmetic outcome. The prospective International Nipple Sparing Mastectomy Registry (INSPIRE) tests non-inferiority of NSM to SSM for 5-year local recurrence rates and describes cosmetic outcome for women undergoing NSM. This abstract presents short term outcomes.Materials and Methods: Female patients with intention to undergo NSM and immediate reconstruction are eligible. Analyses are performed separately for patients undergoing NSM for DCIS and invasive breast cancer (BC group) and for risk-reduction (RR group).
