Treatment of Extracranial Carotid Artery Aneurysm: Fifteen Years’ Experience at a Single Institution

•We study the managements of extracranial carotid artery aneurysms (ECCAs).•The most common type of ECCAs is type I, and most of these patients had ECCAs combined with internal carotid artery kinking.•Pseudoaneurysm is also an important part of ECCAs; most of the reasons are iatrogenic injury.•Open surgery by aneurysm resection with end-to-end anastomosis is the safe method to treat most of the type I ECCAs.•Endovascular treatment is an effective alternative to open surgery for ECCA repair, particularly for the pseudoaneurysms.
