Abstract
•Phase-field models have been successfully used to model cell motility and morphology.•We present novel numerical simulations of a previously introduced minimal phase-field model.•We find that the model supports both persistently traveling cells and rotating states.•Results help explain lack of persistent motion in the sharp interface limit, and provide insight into the minimal biophysical mechanisms required to give rise to motion.
