Establishment of a simple one-step method for oligodendrocyte progenitor cell preparation from rodent brains.

•We described novel culture conditions to enrich rodent primary OPCs.•This method yielded a much larger number of OPCs than did classical methods.•The cells were initially glial progenitors but changed to OPCs within several days.•The OPCs differentiated into oligodendrocytes in response to thyroid hormone.•Our discovery will contribute toward more efficient OPC/oligodendrocyte research.
