•The present study determined the exact effect of moderate intensity of SMF on mature condylar chondrocytes, which contributes to the vertical formation of mandible.•The present study further detected the positive effects of SMF on osteogenesis.•The present study explored the potential correlated molecular mechanism, which suggested that SMF may caused by balancing FLRT/BMP signaling pathway.
