Tensile properties of pillared graphene block

•A hybrid carbon nanostructure is introduced as pillared graphene block (PGB).•PGB has a new architecture made by pillared graphene parts.•Molecular dynamics simulation method is utilized to carry out this study.•Uniaxial tensile tests are used to evaluate the mechanical properties of the nanostructure.•PGB shows outstanding mechanical properties along with low density.
