•High doses of ω-3 fatty acids reduced plasmatic concentrations of low-density lipoprotein.•The association between ω-3 fatty acids and physical activity increased the levels of high-density lipoprotein.•High doses of ω-3 fatty acids did not cause muscle mass alteration.•Supplementation with ω-3 fatty acids did not affect the body weight gain of the animals.
