•Full genomes of ten PPMV-1 isolates were determined in this study.•Ten PPMV-1 viruses belong to VI.1.2.2.2, VI.2.1.1.2.1, VI.2.1.1.2.2 or VII genotypes.•VI.1.2.2.2, VI.2.1.1.2.1 and VI.2.1.1.2.2 PPMV-1 viruses are circulating in pigeons in China.•VI.2.1.1.2.1 and VI.2.1.1.2.2 PPMV-1 viruses are pathogenic to pigeon.
