Comparative study between a novel 7-sensor plantar pressure measurement insole and the F-scan device

A new insole device sensing the plantar pressure at seven points was developed. This study aims at testing the validity of the centers of pressure computed from these seven points for a 10-m walking test involving 13 healthy participants. Strong correlations with the standard F-scan method were observed for the computation of instantaneous center of pressure (r equal to or greater than 0.77 and 0.96, respectively, for the variations in anterior-posterior and medial-lateral directions; p <; 0.001). The new 7-sensor device may provide a low-cost, portable, and easy-to-use alternative for the objective evaluation of gait stability.
