Establishing practical strategies to run high loading corn stover anaerobic digestion: Methane production performance and microbial responses.

•TS was increased gradually until CS AD system was acidized.•Methane production rate was the highest in 13% TS, 15% TS led to acidification.•Adding 30% CM could rescue AD system back to a stable operation.•Acidification of CS was highly correlating with Clostridium and Caproiciproducens.•High abundance (31.07%) of Bathyarchaeota was found in AD system.
