Solid-state synthesis of SrAl4O7 and luminescence of Eu3+-doped samples

Monophasic Eu3+-doped SrAl4O7 samples were prepared by the solid state-reaction method. The effect of aluminum source as well as usage of fluxing agent on phase purity of synthesized specimens was evaluated and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction measurements. Photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra of europium-doped samples were recorded and revealed that the samples exhibit emission with most intensive peak at 611 nm wavelength corresponding to 5D0 → 7F2 transition. Finally, the effect of charge compensation using Li+ ions on photoluminescence intensity was examined.
