Abstract
Long acting reversible contraception including levonorgestrel intrauterine device (LNG-IUD), subdermal etonogestrel (ETNG) implants and injectable medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) are first tier contraception for adolescents. In adults, DMPA use can increase HIV acquisition, but there is a paucity of information regarding the biologic effects of these and other progestin-based contraceptive methods on the immune function of adolescent genital tract.
