•A mineral system is used by GIS to predict gold potential areas.•Heat-metal sources, pathways and chemical scrubbers are conceptual controls.•Granitoids, dacite lithic tuff, and black shale are the main targeting elements.•A Carlin-type gold potential map was obtained using WIO data integration modeling.•The developed model can be used at the main volcanic arc of Iran.
