Abstract

•Capacitive excitation piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) is developed to minimize electrostatic interactions.•The piezoresponse measured by capacitive excitation PFM (ce-PFM) is smaller than conventional PFM.•The domain contrast obtained by ce-PFM is sharper than conventional PFM.
