Abstract
•VO2 spheres, rods and carambolas are obtained using capping agents in HTS.•Showed that capping agent influence is based on acid-particle surface interactions.•Spheres demonstrate less expressed phase transition than nanorods.•Initial discharge capacity of VO2 nanorods is 100 mA h g−1.•Initial discharge capacity of nanorods is 3 times higher than of spheres.
