Urban greenery, active school transport, and body weight among Hong Kong children

•Three objective measuring method were used to assessed different dimensions of urban greenery.•Schools with greener surrounding areas are more likely to encourage active transport behaviour.•Children attending schools with greener surrounding areas are more likely to have a lower BMI.•Active school transport behaviour partially mediates the impact of urban greenery on BMI.
