Crystal Growth and Electro-Elastic Property Characterization of Yttrium Strontium Phosphate

The yttrium strontium phosphate crystal YSr 3 (PO 4 ) 3 (YSP), a new multifunction crystals material with noncentrosymmetric characteristics, has been grown successfully by the Czochralski pulling technology in a short period (within one week). In this report, the electromechanical coupling factors, dielectric permittivity and dielectric losses of YSP crystal were evaluated by impedance method for potential piezoelectric applications. The dielectric loss was measured to be <; 0.1% at room temperature while increased to 40% at 750 °C. The electromechanical coupling factor k 14 at room temperature were determined to be on the order of 12.11% while slightly decreased to 9.73% at 850 °C. The YSP crystal might be an important piezoelectric crystal material for high temperature application.
