Fuzzy-based Adaptive Sliding Mode Control for a Direct-Driven PMSG Wind Energy System

This paper proposes an adaptive fuzzy-based sliding mode controller (FASMC) to control the machine side converter (MSC) of a direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) in a wind energy system (WES). The FASMC is applied to control the components of stator currents in the synchronous reference frame of PMSG. The presented FASMC involves two integral switching functions for control of direct and quadrature stator currents components. The parameters of FASMC have been adapted based on the fuzzy logic to overcome the poor dynamic performance of the SMC with constant parameters. Matlab/Simulink simulation has been carried to test the control scheme. Moreover, the validation of the proposed controller has been done by comparing its performance with the performance of PI controller. The simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the suggested control system of FASMC.
