PURPOSE To evaluate the association between body mass index (BMI) and the development of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in preterm infants. METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study of a population-based cohort of infants who were born between 22 and 32 weeks gestation from 2007 to 2011. Maternal and infant data were extracted from the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) and the California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) datasets, from 136 neonatal intensive care units.
