Public Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Organ Donation and Transplantation: A Survey From a Medium-Sized Brazilian City.

•In Brazil, organ donation after brain death is allowed only after family consent.•Identification of deceased donors increased, but family donation refusal is still high.•In a population with a high refusal rate, we identified a demographic profile of nondonors.•Conflicting concepts about brain death and donation still exist in declared donors.•These data should guide future education strategies.
