Security Mechanisms to Provide Convoy Member Co-presence Authentication in Vehicle Platooning

The emergence of vehicle platooning has brought many economic incentives, such as increasing road throughput, reducing traffic accidents, bringing convenient transportation and so on. However, it is a difficult task to verify a vehicle participating in a platoon. The platooning vehicles are vulneralbe to various attacks such as disguising as non-existent vehicles to disturb the convoy, broadcasting counterfeit platooning information to collect the privacy data of vehicle trajectory. Security is a necessary pre-requisite for adoption of platooning. In this paper, we propose an approach to verify the co-presence of platooning vehicles.
