•A perovskite oxide La1.15MnO3+δ was developed for peroxymonosulfate activation.•La1.15MnO3+δ has low Mn average oxidation state and abundant oxygen vacancies.•1O2-based non-radical pathway was confirmed for oxidation in La1.15MnO3+δ/PMS system.•The faster evolution of 1O2 was derived from oxygen vacancies of La1.15MnO3+δ.
