摘要
•Weaning indices of the adult population tend to be standardized gradually, but risk stratifications for tracheal extubation in low birth weight (LBW) infants remain limited and challenging owing to their arrested lung developments, small-diameter airways, and unstable haemodynamics•Over the past decade, no descriptive statistics about extubation practices exist from a contemporary cohort of LBW infants. Current literature on extubation failure (ExF) is limited to heterogeneous patient populations undergoing uncomplicated repairs. Filling these gaps will be critical to respiratory management for ventilated LBW infants. This study was aimed to explore etiology and risk factors of ExF in LBW infants undergoing congenital heart operation. Thus, efforts to decrease the incidence rate of ExF would be crucial for critically ill infants with heart disease
