Abstract
The objective of the paper was to determine whether there are radiological unilateral temporomandibular changes associated with dental indicators. For this purpose, 229 patients were analysed (49.78 +/- 5.77 years) in a retrospective study in the department (data from the electronic archive) "Imaging diagnostics, dental allergology and physiotherapy", Faculty of DM, MU-Plovdiv. Missing/devitalised teeth on both sides of the oral cavity are compared - without X-ray positive temporomandibular disorder (TMD), compared to the side with X-ray positive TMD. It was found that the differences in right temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder are siginificant: between missing/devitalised teeth of the upper jaw (UJ), left quadrant and those in the right (t = 2,099, p = 0.038); missing/devitalised teeth of the UJ and lower jaw (LJ), respectively for left and right quadrants (t = 2.076, p = 0.40). Most missing/devitalised teeth and TMD are in the right half in patients over 50 years of age, where the differences are more pronounced. It was concluded that in right-sided TMD have a higher total number of missing/devitalised teeth than patients with left-sided TMD. There is a correlation between the number of missing/devitalised teeth and the severity of damage to the adjacent TMJ, which is probably due to damage to the adjacent vascular bundle.
