Abstract
•New mathematical model has high accuracy to predict flow maldistribution.•Simplified model with shortened channels overestimates flow non-uniformity of actual PCHE.•Inlet and outlet local hydraulic losses are essential reasons to affect flow maldistribution.•Flow rate on non-uniformity is significant in laminar flow, but it is slight in turbulent flow.•Relationship between geometrical dimension and operating condition is proposed.
