Catalytic activity of PtSn4: insights from surface-science spectroscopies
Applied Surface Science(2020)
Abstract
•The catalytic activity of PtSn4 is determined by its surface termination.•In oxygen environment, the surface termination is a sub-nanometric tin-oxide skin.•Surface oxidation is beneficial for PtSn4 performance in hydrogen evolution reaction.•Oxidized PtSn4 behaves similarly to Pt(111) in catalysis, in spite of the reduced amount of Pt.
