Abstract
•The thermal fatigue behavior of functionally graded W/EUROFER-layers is tested.•Using a new testing apparatus with up to 5000 thermal cycles between 300 and 550 °C were realized.•The layer systems are stable under the applied conditions.•The layer systems hardness and microstructural profiles are determined by their coating processes.
