Abstract
•Psychiatric MDD patients with comorbid alcohol use disorder are more often men, inpatients, younger, smoke, have a smaller social network and perceive less social support.•They also have more often comorbid anxiety, and personality disorders, and suicidal ideation.•Prospectively they spend more time depressed, and have more suicide attempts compared to those without alcohol use disorder diagnoses.
