Abstract
Wireless Regional Area Network (WRAN) with IEEE 802.22 standard has a long wide radius until 30km in rural and remote area. It operates in VHF and UHF Television spectrum and overtakes an unused spectrum with cognitive radio technology. This standard allows WRAN to avoid interference with existing TV spectrum and other low power wireless devices. In case of a disaster occurred and break down the nearest telecommunication infrastructure, WRAN is capable to connect with more distant telecommunication infrastructures. In this research, an ultra-wide band microstrip antenna is designed by using slotted patch and defected ground plane. The designed antenna has range frequency of VHF and UHF for WRAN application and has bandwidth around 500 MHz. It uses epoxy FR4 as a substrate and simulated by CST software. The designed antenna has frequency of 503 - 1018,2 MHz with return loss minimum of -26.705 dB. While the fabricated antenna has frequency of 528 - 1000 MHz with minimum return loss of -32 dB. The antenna has gain of 2.01 dB for simulation and 1.5509 dB for fabricated at 700 MHz. The fabricated antenna is capable to work at UHF range.
