Abstract
Sudden cardiac arrest remains an unexpected and dynamic cardiovascular disease process that continues to present challenges for accurate risk prediction and prevention. The notion of a circadian pattern in the occurrence of sudden cardiac arrest had long been supported by the presence of an early morning peak; however, more recent studies are calling this observation into question. This likely paradigm shift in the presentation and mechanisms of sudden cardiac arrest has major implications and needs to be carefully considered. In this review, we present the current state of the science of circadian and septadian trends in sudden cardiac arrest through an in-depth analysis of the published literature.(c) 2020 Elsevier Inc.
