Fundamental investigation of the adhesion strength between cyclopentane hydrate deposition and solid surface materials

•A multi-spray method was developed for forming hydrate deposition in oil phase.•Adhesion strength between hydrate layer and wall was tested with self-built apparatus.•Effects of subcooling, formation time, surface roughness and material were discussed.•Model was proposed for evaluating the feasibility of hydrate deposition on pipe wall.
